Interview with Sgt. Avery Prichard, November 30th, 2023
Military
This interview is about an event from the twenty-year long War in Afghanistan (2001-2021) this is after the events of the U.S.-Taliban deal that was signed on the 29th of February 2020 which was a crucial key point in the United States Military presence in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. From that point on withdrawal from U.S. troops began to happen and the Taliban offensive started to begin. This led to the event that we will focus on which was the evacuation from Afghanistan in August 2021 where evacuations of international diplomatic, military and civilian staff, including Afghanistan civilians we're being evacuated from the Hamid Karzai International Airport (H-KIA) in the Afghanistan capital of Kabul. Now I love this interview because we don't get the political view, stateside view, or refugee view but we get the view of Avery Prichard a Sergeant (SGT) in the United States Army, and Combatmedic/Paramedic (68W3P) of a forward resuscitative surgical detachment who provided medical and surgical care to U.S. Soldiers and foreign nationals while being in H-KIA. Avery shares his experiences and emotions of before being deployed, during deployment and evacuation, and coming back home.
