Description

Color photograph of The Raymont School House. This is one of Cumberland County’s oldest educational buildings nestled between our Health Technologies Center and the Neill Currie Building. Raymont was a neighborhood school in Fayetteville’s Seventy-First Township and named after William Ray; his family received a land grant in the late 1700s. The 14 x 30 foot building seated between 25 to 30 students, probably across all grade levels. After the school fell out of use, funds raised preserved the building. The heirs of William Ray donated the schoolhouse to the former Fayetteville City School System before finding its home on the FTCC campus.
